Star Trek Machines Available To Harrah’s Clients

Are you a trekkie? I sure am! Even though I know a lot of people who would not hesitate to make fun of those who profess that they are trekkies, I still think that Star Trek is the coolest sci fi thing in the world. And when you combine this concept to gaming machines, you got me hooked.

This is exactly what Harrah’s casinos and WMS Gaming Inc., a subsidiary of WMS Industries Inc. have done. They have teamed up in order to make available Harrah’s TOTAL REWARDS version of WMS’ STAR TREK series of gaming machines. This is what Harrah’s customers can expect:

Harrah’s will introduce these customized games across its enterprise - beginning in Las Vegas in December 2008. Players who are members of the Harrah’s TOTAL REWARDS program will be able to use their cards to create a personalized and differentiated gaming experience on the STAR TREK themed gaming machines at most of the company’s casinos in North America, as Harrah’s moves forward with a market-by-market implementation plan, subject to additional jurisdictional regulatory approvals.

I am quite edgy about the last word – approvals. I sure hope that there will be no serious problems in this respect. Anyhow, for the sake of the trekkies, here is more info on the machines:

Alcohol Round The Clock?

If you were a casino operator and you saw your revenues dropping significantly, what would you do? I am sure that you would be running around to find a way to get your revenues to go up once again. The question then is what measures you should take.

This got me thinking – why would casinos want to serve alcohol round the clock? The answer seems to be pretty simple. Think about how you act and behave when you’ve had several units of alcohol in you. You’d probably want to stay longer at the casino – longer than you originally intended to. You’d probably want to spend more than you had planned as well. Both of these tendencies would naturally favor the casino.

Now why wouldn’t they want to serve alcohol for extended hours? You tell me!

When You Face A Losing Streak

Whether you are playing in an online casino or in a brick and mortar casino, the fact remains that you would have to face a losing streak every now and then. Avoid going on tilt as much as possible.
Tilt is the word that is most commonly used in poker when a player gets emotional and as a result, loses full control of his emotions. Though not everybody will admit that he or he is on tilt, it happens. People go on tilt in varying degrees. Some are merely thrown off balance for a bit while others may reach a point wherein they do not care how much money they lose. Whatever the situation, I suggest that you be honest with yourself and recognize when you are on tilt. If that is the case, you might want to step away till you get your head back.

Consider the time frame involved.
If you are staying at the casino for only a day, you might as well get up and leave. You’ll be better off that way. However, if you are on a 5-day casino vacation and you face a losing streak on the very first day, why not merely take a break from the table? Stand up, walk around and clear your head. This will help avoid going full tilt and hopefully, Lady Luck will smile upon you when you come back.
