Police in Switzerland are hunting a gang of armed gunmen that held up a casino and made off with hundreds of thousands of francs in the early hours of Sunday morning.
Reports say that the 10 gunmen smashed their way through Grand Casino Basel’s revolving door at around 4am and ordered approximately 600 customers and employees to lie on the floor before raiding cash registers on two floors.
Police revealed that the robbers fled the scene having failed in their attempt to break into the casino’s strong room.
Michael Favrod, managing director of the Grand Casino Basel, told Bloomberg that the robbery had clearly been planned.
“The people knew where to go, what they had to do and that they had to leave quickly,” he said. “They weren’t shooting around wildly. They were shooting into the air and trying to scare people. They acted assertively and communicated to the minimum.”
Sounds like an inside job, eh?
The incident follows an armed robbery earlier this month at a Berlin poker tournament during which thieves made off with over $300,000.
Thanks Simon.
Meanwhile, my thoughts: I love going to casinos, but might this not be an advertisement for spending your time and money in the safety of secure, online casinos?
Just a thought.
