This happened on Sunday morning, Mar. 28.
What I’m hearing from my contacts in Switzerland is that a group of masked bandits hit a casino in Basel, stealing a reported hundreds of thousands of Swiss francs.
Police said about 10 men in black robbed the Grand Casino in Basel. They arrived in two Audi sedans (gray) with French license plates.
They smashed through the front door.
They had machine guns and other pistols.
Once inside they made the 600 or so guests and workers to fall to the ground.
Police said the men spoke French.
The casino, by the way, is literally on the Swiss-French border, and five minutes from the Basel airport.
Some of the men began emptying registers, while the others unsuccessfully attempted to break open a safe in the basement by shooting the door.
A few people were injured by the robbers.
The men ran off into France and as of this writing have not been caught.
Does this sound anything like the poker tournament robbery in Berlin, Mar. 6? You bet it does.
The theft comes just a week after the Swiss government gave the green light for regions that don’t currently have casinos to seek a license this spring.
We’ll keep you posted.
Is this a trend? Are people getting that desperate, worldwide, that they are hitting casinos?
