If you are a frequent visitor to Atlantic City, you might already be aware of the trouble brewing between management and the unions. During the weekend, the leadership of the United Auto Workers already gave their go signal to the employees of Bally’s Atlantic City and Caesars Atlantic City – they can go on strike. The dates for the possible strikes have not been mentioned, however.
This kind of development will certainly have an effect on those who have been making plans to go to the area in the near future. One thing that you should know is that the management of some of the casinos have already come up with contingency plans in case a walk out does happen. Harrah’s Entertainment Inc, for example, has released statements to the effect that they will be hiring replacement workers in case of a strike.
According to J. Carlos Tolosa, the eastern regional president of Harrah’s, “We take their threats seriously. There are 14,000 employees in Atlantic City who rely on Harrah’s for their livelihood, and we are not going to let the misguided tactics of the UAW interfere with our guests or the employees who are working hard to keep Atlantic City competitive this summer.”
We already know that the casino industry is not in the best possible shape right now. This kind of action against them would definitely be a big blow. However, it seems that the people in management will not take things sitting down and will continue to provide theirs services to those who want it.
