A lot of noise has been created in the process of biddings to allow slot parlors to be erected in two parks in Maryland, namely, Laurel Park and Rocky Gap State Park. In the recent months, the state has been accepting bids for the issuance of permits to run slots parlors in various areas. There were 6 original bids – those two sites mentioned above and four others at Baltimore City and Cecil County and at Arundel Mills Mall and Ocean Downs racetrack.
Earlier today, however, the commission tasked with reviewing the bids decided that the two bids for the parks were not qualified. This is due to the fact that the bids did not include licensing fees and financing, which are part of the legal requirement. These fees amount to millions of dollars.
The bidders are not taking things sitting down, however. They are filing petitions and doing whatever they can in order for their bids to be re-evaluated. Either that or to find the chance to submit another bid that will allow them to carry on with their projects.
There is no definite word for now as to what will happen to Laurel Park and Rocky Gap in terms of slot parlors but the 4 other sites will have a total of 6,5550 slot machines combined. That’s a whole lot of slot machines, don’t you think? One thing is for sure – the people of Maryland should not have a lack of machines to play with in the future.
