Do you have a Gambling Problem by nightwind
I am not one to judge, but really, people sometimes just do not know how to take responsibility for their own actions! I read this story about a man who owes over $14 million in Las Vegas. Terrance Watanabe is his name and his story is that the casinos KEPT him at the tables by giving him liquor and even painkillers. USA Today carries the story:
Terrance Watanabe, described as a Nebraska philanthropist, has been indicted on theft and bad-check charges stemming from gambling losses of $12 million at Caesars Palace and $2.7 million at the Rio during a three-month period in 2007.
The newspaper says Watanabe’s lawyer sent prosecutors a seven-page letter in which he maintains Watanabe was in such an incoherent state that he was “incapable of forming the criminal intent” to avoid paying his gambling debts. The attorney, it says, declined to comment on the letter.
Perhaps I do not know the whole story but I gamble, and I know that even if I were given an unlimited supply of liquor, I would not amass that much debt. More so, why would I want to take painkillers while gambling AND drinking? Well, unless I were not in the right state of mind the first place.
Anyhow, stories like these should serve as lessons for us. Gambling does have its bad side so best to be levelheaded about the whole thing. And yeah, don’t mix drinking with gambling. That’s a fast standing rule in my book.
