We took a quick look at pai gow poker in a previous post. Are you still wondering why this game has gained such a huge following? You really should not – it is one of the most exciting table games that you can play and if you like poker and similar games, you will like it all the more.
So how do you play pai gow poker?
The basic idea in pai gow poker is that you play against a predetermined person – the banker. The game starts with a person being designated as the banker and he covers all the bets. Players at the table take turns in being the banker.
Once this person has been designated, everyone at the table places a bet. After the round of betting is done, all the players must then organize their 7 cards into two hands – one of 2 cards and one of 5 cards. If your hand beats both of the banker’s hand, then you win even money on your bet. Usually the house keeps 5 percent commission, though. If the banker has 2 winning hands, then you lose your bet. If both hands are even, no one wins anything. For hands that are copies of each other, it is the banker who wins.
As you can see, it is very advantageous to be the banker. That is why if you are given the opportunity to be the banker, you should grab the chance. Even if you lose, you still gain 5 percent commission on the money.
